Recently the kids had gone hunting for frogs and found one inside the utility box that covers a pipe in the front yard. He was a fairly small frog and kind of gray with darker spots. After they were done playing with him they were to put him back so he could live his normal life as a frog free from the hands of curious children.
The next day as soon as Jack got off the bus the children had again found the frog and played with it for a time and then returned him to his home. After a few days of this I am fairly certain the frog had gotten used to them though I’m sure he did not like it. He had gotten quite big and was a darker gray.
Today, when Jack got off the bus, he and Alex went straight for the utility box and discovered that their old friend was no longer there, but in his place was a smaller lighter gray frog with dark spots. Jack was not convinced that the other frog was not hiding somewhere in the box and continued to search with his hands for the larger frog. Eventually finding a hole under and to the left of where the box ended. He stuck his hand in the little dark hole (so much braver than I) and felt another frog. It was a completely different frog just as small as the one he already had. His big frog was nowhere to be found.
Though they were both a little sad, that soon passed when they realized that they no longer had to share a frog between them, but each child had their own individual pet frog… for a few minutes a day until Mommy makes them put the poor creatures back in their homes to recover.
