Static Airshow

For Mothers Day we decided to go out and see a free Static Airshow that was being held at the Air National Guard base connected to Mitchell Field Airport. We had to take a bus to a screening station similar to what you go through in the airport because it was located on secure airport property and then another bus to actually get onto the base to see the planes and other military type equipment they had on hand.

Of course, the guns were a big hit.

As was being a gun or bazooka as the case may be.

Getting to be inside a Humvee as well as getting to operate the turret gun was fun for the kids as well.

They might have been just a bit shy of being tall enough to make very good shooters.

Jack could barely see where he was aiming.

Inside the Cargo aircrafts were pretty amazing.

They even got to sit in the cockpit and punch a few buttons. Of course they found the one button they weren’t supposed to and had to be told to please put the cover back down and don’t push it whatever you do.

I’m unsure if I would want these two to be in a cockpit by themselves, luckily there was a Guardsman on duty to prevent them from doing anything too crazy.

They got to see helicopters…

Gigantic snow throwers…

and enormous Snow plows that clear the airport runways during the winter.

Crazy how big these machines really are.

After a couple of snow cones to end the long hot day we headed back home for a little Mother’s Day cookout. Not a bad day for being free.
