Right on track

The day after we had Jack’s birthday party his Daddy was brushing his teeth and noticed he had two additional teeth that hadn’t been there previously. he called me to come take a look and sure enough, there were two of his adult teeth coming in right behind his baby teeth. The lower central incisors were growing right behind the baby teeth. Of course this sent me running to the internet to look up if this was normal or not, as I had always thought the teeth had to fall out before the other ones could come in. Everything I read said that adult teeth usually started to come in around the age of six and the baby teeth fall out in the order they originally came in.  So Jack is right on track down to the day on where he supposed to be where oral growth is concerned.

About two weeks later Jack said his teeth were feeling a little loose and not even two days later his first baby tooth had fallen out during the middle of the night and he found it in his mouth in the morning. Lucky for him he didn’t swallow it. Of course, he already knew all about the Tooth Fairy and how if you leave your tooth under your pillow the tooth fairy will bring you money and take the tooth. So we put the tooth in an envelope and Jack put it under his pillow that night and waited for the Tooth Fairy to come. The next morning, just like magic, the tooth was gone and a dollar bill was in its place.

Alex, who wants to do everything that his brother does, wanted the Tooth Fairy to visit him as well. So Jack, being the sweet brother that he is, found a white Lego for Alex to put under his pillow and then gave Alex a penny for it. Alex promptly lost the penny and Jack replaced it with a quarter which was again lost in no time. It was a very sweet gesture even if the money didn’t stick around for very long.

That very night when Jack was brushing his teeth, his second tooth fell out and the Tooth Fairy had to come back again. I will of course have to negotiate with the Tooth Fairy in order to retrieve those two little baby teeth in order to put them in my scrap book at some point.

It is a hard thing for me to know my little Jack is getting bigger and bigger everyday, but it is so much fun to be able to watch how he changes in some ways and yet still remains my little boy.

Jamie lost her first tooth just in the past couple of weeks too. Her second tooth is coming loose now. The crazy thing is, the only adult tooth she has right now is a molar that grew in while nobody was looking. I was helping her brush her teeth and saw three on one side and two on the other.
